Severe weather has caused flooding, slips and state highway closures, including Taranaki’s two routes north – state highways 3 and 4. Awakino Gorge will remain closed until the slips can be cleared and the road made safe by contractors who are on scene.

Police are aware of some vehicles that are stranded as a result, and a helicopter is searching for trapped residents.

  1. State high 3 is scheduled to be reopened at 8 pm on Friday the 17th of October so your best way to go would be go down t marton and then up state highway 1 if you’re going up north but if you’re going down south just go your normal route. take care whanau
