The video below shows two men dumping unsaleable mattresses and furniture outside the Hospice charity shop’s warehouse on Borrell Avenue in Westown, which opens six days a week for donations.
In a social media post, Hospice Taranaki says they are upset and disheartened at having to pay $500 to remove the rubbish – money that should be going towards helping care for people in the community who are terminally ill.
“Every dollar we spend removing rubbish is a dollar we can’t spend on essential care and equipment. The $500 it will cost to dispose of this coul dhave bought a wheelchair – helping a patient stay mobile and connected with the people they love”
“Our Hospice Shops exist to raise vital funds so we can continue to care. Dumping rubbish at our fences only takes that care away.”
The pair are yet to be identified.
