Some mayoral aspirants a no-show to first “Meet the Mayoral Candidates” community event

The first “Meet the Mayoral Candidates” event took place on Wednesday night, with all 9 mayoral hopefuls invited to introduce themselves, discuss their ideas, listen and answer questions from the moderator and audience.

Max Brough, the frontrunner according to our latest poll with 65% of votes, was present along with Graham Chard, Greg Mackay and Peter Marra. They discussed a range of topics including the Long Term Plan, rates, community engagement, council contracts, what they hope to achieve during their term, and more.

Absent mayoral candidates were Cr David Bublitz, Cr Sam Bennett, Sarah Lucas, John Woodward, and Bill Simpson – who also hasn’t yet submitted answers to the NPDC questionnaire.

This event is the first of many coming up. It was organised by the New Plymouth Ratepayers Alliance at the Plymouth International Hotel, and independently moderated. A recording of the forum will be posted online in the coming days, for residents who couldn’t attend on the night.
